Il primo colpo doveva essere il mio; puntai il moschetto; guardai a destra e a sinistra, fu un momento di ansia; i miei uomini avevano i fucili spianati e lo sguardo rivolto a me ... » A distanza di oltre ottant'anni dalla fine della Grande Guerra emergono ancora documenti e testimonianze che raccontano in modo dettagliato piccoli e grandi avvenimenti di un conflitto che ha modificato il corso della storia. Ne è un esempio l'epistolario, ritrovato alcuni anni fa in modo del tutto casuale, del capitano Giuseppe Gabbin, un ufficiale dei bersaglieri che si distinse sui campi di battaglia delle Giudicarie ma, soprattutto, si fece amare da tutti per la sua profonda umiltà e umanità. Divenuto aviatore e poi comandante di squadriglia sul fronte carsico, pagò con la vita il suo sogno di volare l'indomani di Caporetto. Dall'incrocio tra la storia della Grande Guerra e la storia personale del capitano emerge uno straordinario racconto, da cui trapelano le sensazioni e i sentimenti di uomini semplici e romantici, che affrontarono situazioni tragiche con una forza d'animo a noi oggi sconosciuta. Dalle fotgrafie, quasi tutte inedite, appaiono i volti di numerosi personaggi, alcuni assolutamente anonimi, altri famosi come Gabriele D'Annunzio, che volò al fianco di Gabbin.

Of the epistolario, found again is an example some years ago in way of all the accidental one, of captain Giuseppe Gabbin, an official of the bersaglieres who distinguished itself on the battlefields of the Giudicarie but, above all, it was made to love from all for its deep humility and humanity. Become aviator and then commander of squadron on the carsico forehead, paid with the life its dream to fly the next day of Caporetto. From the crossing between the history of the Great War and the personal history of the captain an extraordinary story emerges, from which trapelano the feelings and the feelings of simple and romantici men, that they faced tragic situations with a force of mind to we today disowned. From the fotgrafie, nearly all unknown ones, appear the faces of numerous personages, some absolutely anonymous ones, other famous ones like Gabriel D' Annunzio, that it flew to the flank of Gabbin.
